This site was born of a need to boast about some incredible talent in the Lowcountry community.

It all began with Main Street Writes, a weekly writer’s group (Mondays, 6:30 p.m.), held in Summerville, South Carolina’s indie bookstore, Main Street Reads and via Zoom (details below).

The group began small, as most groups do.

And then it happened, a gradual but critical explosion of veteran scribes and emerging talent that couldn’t be contained by the occasional blog mention, obscure literary journal, or a flash-in-the-pan Facebook post…

So we began to imagine: What if this talent had an informal receptacle? A virtual gathering place where the general public could get a taste of the brilliance, where fellow writers could share not only their words but the words of peers they admire…

This was our answer.

As Main Street Writes grows, you’ll see new faces and new talent emerge through short, potent pieces each week. No entry will take more than a few minutes to digest, though most will stick to your ribs long after the reading…

We wholeheartedly encourage you to stop by each week, to enjoy an original work of literary art, and to share it (and its author) with those you know and love.

From single bricks were built pyramids. Here’s a growing collection we think just might be destined for immortality…

Are You a Writer?

For the inner writer in all of us, Main Street Writes is a weekly Monday evening writers group – growing each month and sharing some incredible talent! We meet most weeks via Zoom, but once a month, typically on the first Monday, we gather live at Summerville’s Main Street Reads, and those who can’t still join in via Zoom.

Those attending live share pizza, wine, and some in-person camaraderie, but it’s not required. (We’ve tried to share the pizza virtually but it makes a mess of the screen…)

Watch the calendar at Main Street Reads for live dates and join any Monday night via the Zoom link below:

If you’d prefer to send your pages in advance (no more than a couple single-spaced or 4 double spaced, you can email them to [email protected] — and we’ll share w/the group. On entering the meeting you’ll be given a link to a Google doc of words so you can follow along.
